subcontinent was entered by some European traders. Then there was the rule of
the Mughal Empire in India.
They got to know India very closely and gradually
they increased their military strength under the pretext of trade. Then the
British East India Company enslaved India because of its vast military power
and during the 18th century, the British established their local empire and
powerful power throughout India.
In 1857, a huge revolution was started by the Indians
against the British rule and they proved to be quite decisive. The Revolt of
1857, the Indian Rebellion, the Pathan and the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, and many
such revolts, which proved to be milestones in the campaign of independence and
gradually the British East India Company realized that their future was in
danger.
At the 1929 session of the Indian National Congress in
Lahore, India declared Purna Swaraj. In order to fulfill the demand for
complete Swaraj, the Indian Congress was requested by the National Congress to
properly obey the orders of the Civil Disobedience Movement and any movement in
the future.
After World War II, in 1947, the British government was
convinced that it could not show its power in India for a long time. Indian
freedom fighters were constantly fighting and then the British decided to
liberate India although Hindu-Muslim riots took place after India's
independence (15 August 1947) which separated India and Pakistan.
Mohammad Ali Jinnah
became the first Governor-General of Pakistan while Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
Azad became the first Prime Minister of India. An official ceremony was held in
Delhi, the capital of the country, where all big leaders and freedom fighters
(Abul Kalam Azad, BR Ambedkar, Master Tara Singh, etc.) participated and
celebrated the festival of independence.
A large number of people died on both sides during the
Partition violence while people from other regions celebrated Independence Day.
The 5th meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held in the Constitutional
Hall, New Delhi under the leadership of President Rajendra Prasad at 11 am on
14 August where Jawaharlal Nehru gave his speech.
The midnight on 15 August 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru declared
India an independent country.
